When it comes to writing, I have the Midas touch.
Over the course of my 33-year career in writing and editing, I’ve won an unprecedented 14 Kenneth R. Wilson Awards for excellence in business journalism, including gold and silver prizes in the hotly contested “Best Feature Article” category as well as for “Best Editorial.” (One year I won both the gold and silver prize for Best Editorial.) I wrote a book about my experiences in the Amazon that won the 2018 Silver Medal in its category from the Independent Book Publisher Awards, and I’ve twice been a finalist at Canada’s National Magazine Awards.
My articles have appeared in national media such as the Globe & Mail newspaper, Saturday Night magazine, and The Next City, I cut my teeth in the business press, where I edited two publications for 25 years that I cofounded: HazMat Management magazine and Solid Waste & Recycling magazine. As the titles suggest, these were practical publications that spoke to the “shop floor” of environmental science and engineering professionals in private industry and municipal government. I rewrote articles to make them engaging and even entertaining, while maintaining a clean and powerful “Chicago style” prose.

My ability to convey subtle and even poetic ideas manifested in my book, The Year of Drinking Magic: Twelve Ceremonies with the Vine of Souls. My writing took the “armchair traveler” into the scents and sounds of the Peruvian Amazon, and inside deep mystical shamanic experiences that are challenging to convey in words.
In recent years I’ve expanded my editing services to books, having edited about a half-dozen books that range in topics from the geopolitical insights of a shaman in Peru’s Sacred Valley to the memoir of a famous Canadian yoga studio owner. Check out the Accolades section to read how these authors felt about how I helped them transform their writing from good to awesome!
